How many copies you need

The CMR Convention requires at least three originals. Each copy has a different colour border and a different holder.

1Red
Sender's copy

Stays with the consignor as proof that the goods were handed over to the carrier.

2Blue
Consignee's copy

Travels with the goods and is given to the recipient at delivery, signed in Box 24.

3Green
Carrier's copy

Kept by the carrier — the basis for the freight invoice and for any liability claim.

4Black
Optional copy

Used as a loading copy, for customs, or as the driver's own copy. Not required by the Convention.

Filling the form by hand

A blank form is only half the job — the boxes still have to be right. The short version:

Or skip the handwriting

If you issue more than a couple of CMRs a week, filling the same data by hand stops making sense. Logi Link Up reads your invoice, packing list, or scan and returns a filled CMR in about 12 seconds — you check it and print. Your own blank form can be used as the template.

Questions about the blank form

Is a printed CMR form legally valid?

Yes. The CMR Convention does not prescribe a printing house or a specific paper — it prescribes the content. A form you print yourself with all required boxes and original signatures is valid for international road transport.

Why are the forms bilingual?

Customs officers and drivers along the route do not necessarily read English. A bilingual form lets both parties read the same box in their own language, which is why each template pairs English with one destination language.

Can I use my own company's CMR form?

Yes. Many forwarders have a branded blank or one required by a specific customs authority. Logi Link Up can fill your own form automatically — you upload it once and place the data fields on it.

What do I do if there is not enough room in Box 9?

Attach a packing list or a specification sheet, reference it in Box 5, and keep the description in Box 9 specific enough for customs to identify the commodity. For consolidated cargo, list all commodity types rather than a single generic term.
